Aisha Halima Hachem, “Retractable”, 2021, acrylic paint on wall and projection, 330 x 260 cm.

Each artwork is composed of formal elements, namely line, value, and recently color. As the central theme, lines represent primarily definition. They define the world as I express it through winding convergences. I have trust in my hand in making compositional decisions. In that sense there is an automatic element, allowing for the pen to take control and convey meaning to my action.

Each element in the works is directly tied to my memory, and how I perceive the world. The paths that come together and separate, map out how my life is lived and expressed. As a codified expression, the audience is left with only hints, traces of action and thought translated through line quality, composition, and illusion.

At first, I did not have a recognition of how and why lines turned out to be the main subject that I want to explore but soon enough I realized that they were a codification for my inner tension. A refuge. In that sense they become journals, private accounts that are shared publicly. This is where my variations in the line drawings begin.

The artwork that is being exhibited is part of a three-wall installation representing three maps connected through composition. The lines delimitate the void around the steps that I have taken in those locations. The dots representing my chosen path through-out the journey shown; as an addition to that, the video that is being projected gives the viewer an inside look over the memories that have been made in the locations given.
