I make and contemplate form and image. For this exhibition I take inspiration from antiquated methods of preserving and distributing information. Cylinder seals are a means of compressing visual language. I will expand on this practice, scaling up the dimensions to preserve and distribute my imprinted image.
My current model of working incorporates temporality in sculpture and installation. This temporality is achieved through the steady transformation of amorphous materials; in this context, the material is harvested clay. By introducing the clay to certain external conditions, its form shifts. I empathize with this behavior. For likewise I am formed by my environment.
In this project I will represent the clay and the clay will represent me. The negative and positive images will mirror each other, deepening the relationship between object and maker.
