This work showcases the possibilities of up-cycling, a term used for reusing discarded material in such a way as to create something of higher quality or value than the original. The concept of up-cycling is intriguing in that it forces one to create from something which has already been established. This brings a new challenge in finding more creative ways to improve a product, both visually and in practicality.
The bag was made in collaboration with Sebastian Baar, a 4th year product design student, whose work also focuses on applying up-cycling as an innovative way to use recycled materials in order to create new products. This work is a result of combining our shared interests and different processes in order to turn something tattered and faded into something fresh.
