Working in layers is an important aspect of my work. With every layer I make a new decision how I will continue with the print. Trough layering first with the monotype technique I have begun to work from abstraction. My work focuses on the different printmaking techniques and how I can combine/layer them. At the moment I mainly use monotype, intaglio/drypoint etching, citrus-oil printing and even just the copy machine. It is a constant exploration of the techniques. With printmaking I have recently been incorporating figurative elements in my work, derived from photos and drawings. I find it interesting to come to a kind of figurative abstraction where these elements are treated with the same kind of open exploration as the abstract layerings. At the moment I am still finding out the two different aspects of my work, which is the exploration in printmaking techniques and the focus on ‘depiction’ that comes with incorporating figurative elements.
